The third-party plugins are Photoshop plugins, written to the Photoshop specification for image plugins, and probably a rather old version of that specification (probably 2015-2016 timeframe). You can find it included in the Blackmagic RAW download under ‘Professional Cameras.’ The plugin will be available today for download. That’s all changed now and will open up shooting BRAW to a much wider range of users. This plugin much needed: BRAW is very easy to edit with but not being able to use it in the more popular Premiere Pro and Avid NLE’s made it tough to commit to shooting it. Blackmagic say they are currenlty working with Adobe to get the plugin GPU-enabled. The main difference is that within Premiere and Avid the plugin only uses the CPU and doesn’t currently leverage GPU compute power. The plugin looks and works just like it does in DaVinci Resolve. Today Blackmagic Design released an official plugin for Premiere Pro and Avid. Doing that will cause the signal to mute, though. The way it works is by sending the signal that is going to activate the sidechain process to the plugins external sidechain input in Ableton Live. BRAW Studio, a $25 third party solution, was available for Premiere Pro – however it wasn’t optimized to use the GPU making it a bit clunky for larger projects. Thats because the third party plugin needs to have external sidechain input implemented into its code beforehand. Highly recommend. While editing BRAW in DaVinci Resolve is very easy it wasn’t fully supported for other NLEs. It is a really good tool for the price they're offering it at right now. Maybe start with the free NIK one and see if that works for you. In particular, if you want to use it for the raw development step and shoot high ISO, you might want to find a good noise reduction plugin to go with it. I don't really like the raw developer "persona" compared to other tools I've used, but they are still improving the product and hopefully someday that will get some attention. Diced up between Windows and Mac plugins, the listings cite everything from Absoft to Zaxwerks when it comes to handy plugins for improving the application. But let’s find out how it fares against Photoshop in other categories. If you’re on a tight budget, opting for Affinity Photo will be a no-brainer. If you use it for six months, you’ve already saved money compared to a six-month subscription to Photoshop. I use it post-Raw-conversion for layered editing (especially dodging and burning by hand), those plugins, perspective correction, panorama stitching, focus stacking (sometimes), adding mattes/borders, watermarks, text, etc. Affinity Photo does have an assortment of various third-party plugins that you can find listed on their website. As you can see, Affinity Photo is by far the cheaper option. There were some bugs with some of them until the latest version of Affinity was released now they're all good. I got the free Google version of the Nik plugins to work fine. Usually what I'll do is flatten the layers I'm happy with and continue working if the slowness irritates me too much. A subreddit devoted to the new and unique MAC digital photo editing application, Affinity Photo. I have a 4 year old Dell business class laptop (aka no speed demon and no fancy graphics card), and it works OK until I get about 10 layers deep and then it'll bog down. Affinity gives designers exactly what they need for the highest quality artwork, photos and designsaccurate, high quality tools in fast, innovative, reliable apps with flair.
