Rape is never justifiable in any sense of the term because nobody deserves to get raped. They make it look like you're supposed to feel sorry for him and that it's Aoi's (the oldest daughter) fault as well as her family's that the Masaya's life is ruined. The female counterpart is called chijo.) didn't deserve to go to jail for sexual harassment and that him raping the Kiryu family (a mother and her two daughters) was justifiable in his part. This game not only glorifies rape but also makes it looks like the player character, Masaya Kimura, who is a chikan (Japanese term for a molester, sex offender, or anyone, usually a man, who engages in sexual harassment. The creators attempted to make RapeLay fanservicey but failed big time because they ended up portraying the fanservice obnoxiously and nightmarishly.Īnyway, onto why RapeLay is one of the worst and evilest games ever made. It's "Fan Disservice" just like Fifty Shades of Grey and Twilight, not Fanservice. RapeLay falls into the sexually vulgar, disgusting, and unappealing department. No, there's a fine line between sexually appealing and sexually vulgar/disgusting. Just because I feel sexual attraction just like many people doesn't mean I like everything sexual. Oh yeah, to those of you who are thinking I'm a prude and asexual, you're actually wrong. If it's portrayed obnoxiously, it's a "kink killer".Įroge games are guilty pleasures for me, even the story-oriented visual novel ones. Story-oriented and visual novel eroge games are much better to be honest because they don't portray the sexual content obnoxiously. Because of this, eroge games have gotten more mainstream in Japan now because back then in the 1980s, they were condemned and reviled. The sexual themes are only secondary focal points. Many modern eroge games are nothing like RapeLay because they're visual novel-based and story-oriented, meaning they don't focus on the sexual themes as much. Now, before any of you guys say anything, RapeLay does not represent eroge games as a whole. Don't be fooled by the character designs of the game, it is NOT made by the same company that made Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden, Fatal Frame, Dynasty Warriors, and Samurai Warriors which is Koei Tecmo. RapeLay is a 3D eroge game developed by Illusion, a video game developer known for making 3D eroge games. Japan rarely bans video games due to being one of the leading video game producers in the world so that fact that this game got banned domestically and not just overseas is saying something. The title is already indicative of what type of game it is (it's wordplay of "rape play"). This is honestly one of the evilest games ever made. it's the title that did most of the work in making it infamous rather than anything really incredible about the game.Just a disclaimer: I'm in no way saying anyone who enjoys this game must be sick in the head or loves the idea of raping people because there's something called guilty pleasures. On the other hand I don't suggest anyone run out and purchuse it simply because it's become contreversial, by all accounts the game is pretty awful in of itself. I'm very, very pro-free speech (as many might know). I hope in the future this will change.Īt any rate, when it comes to Rapelay, I don't think it should have been banned given that it's a work of fantasy. The attempts so far to meet a middle ground haven't been all that successful due to censorship. Right now for games I think the problem is that typically games are either totally chaste, or non-stop sex. Sort of like say "Dragon Age: Origins" with more payoff at the end of the romance subplots. Thus you will have sex scenes (including over the top ones) when appropriate to the game and it's progression. I tend to think that the future of adult video game entertainment will be when you see regular games developed without concerns over censorship. Not my genere of choice, but as I said I am slow to dismiss an entire genere out of hand. If it's simply a visual novel/adventure game, then it tends to not be especially good, in certain cases like the cult classic "Knights Of Xentar" it can actually be fairly entertaining to the right audience. A lot of it revolves around how much gameplay there is along with all the sex. While most are garbage there are a few out there that are fairly decent, albiet a lot of them don't come to the US. I will go so far to say that while I have heard nothing really wonderful about the gameplay of THAT game in paticular, I am not so quick to insult all porn/hentai games. That should give you a pretty good impression of the game if your really curious. Here is a review of "Rapelay" from Something Awful by someone who played it for the review.
